Harare, September 1, 2011 – Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited –Coca-Cola’s bottling partner in Zimbabwe today announced their robust plan to become a fully integrated juice company in a push to become a key player in the juice category in Zimbabwe. 

Honest Marandu, Country Manager Coca-Cola Zimbabwe, told guest who attended the Minute Maid launch that this was one example where Coca-Cola is leveraging on its vast experience in liquid food and juice industry. Minute Maid will offer both adults and children nutritious, refreshing and tasty fruit Juices. The Coca-Cola Company is the world’s largest ready-to-drink juice and juice Drink Company and Minute Maid is the World’s No1 Juice Brand. Coca-Cola entered the juice category in 1960 with the acquisition of The Minute Maid Company and The Coca-Cola Company is the No. 1 global buyer of fruit for juice consumption, and buys one in six of all oranges processed for juice. 

Marandu said that moving into 2012 The Company will leverage their local partnerships to further develop and build local sourcing for Juice raw material hence empowering local orange fruit farming communities.

Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited (SZL), Managing Director,  Charles Msipa said that SZL has significantly invested locally in upgrading the its Manufacturing capability in Zimbabwe hence making it a key central Manufacturing Hub and supply point for the Southern African countries surrounding Zimbabwe. 

Msipa said that, although the local juice market is fragmented and led by only a few major players, a wave of positive macro-economic factors and social dynamics present a huge opportunity for the growth of juice in Zimbabwe.

 “Growing consumer sophistication, increasing youth population and burgeoning demand for nutrition and energy drinks underpinned by a strong competitive landscape provide the platform to aggressively drive our juice agenda”. 

Mona Karingi, Franchise Senior Brand Manager Zimbabwe, said that all Minute Maid juices contain real fruit Juice and are made from Natural ingredients. We’re not just making juice, she said.  We’re making juice better and involved in the end to end process of the Juice supply chain to ensure that we are utting the benefits of the natural fruit in the orchard within arm’s reach of everyone!
